YB Bell Bottom Unopposed

Known for his bell bottom trousers, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup won the Pensiangan parliamentary seat without a contest.

Two other two candidates came to the nomination centre in Nabawan (in the interior of Sabah) but their papers were rejected as they arrived after 10am, the closing time for submitting nomination papers.

First time lucky for Kurup as this is his first attempt for an MP seat as all this while he had been contesting State seats and before the election was called, he was the assemblyman for Sook. The Sook seat is now contested by PBRS deputy President Datuk Elliron Angin.

Kurup's victory angered supporters of the disqualified candidates Saineh Usau of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and indedendent Danney Anthony Andipai. They went for Kurup as he emerged from the nomination centre, a man tried to punch him but missed.

Kurup was being led away, escorted by police, to his car.

My Say:

My congratulations to Kurup. Now we will have YB Bell bottom in parliament. Bell Bottom is his trademark.

A plea to the people of Malaysia

It is with great hope that there will be changes brought about to Malaysia after the 12th General Elections on the 8th of March 2008. The chance for a change is in front of us now and we must grab this opportunity to launch a new beginning for all Malaysians.

Dear Readers,
I am from Penampang in Sabah and I take the opposition’s manifesto for the coming elections with great interest as we cannot deny that we as the people of Malaysia have been taken for granted for too long. The strong mandate given to the Barisan Nasional in the 2004 elections has proven to have failed. Issues & scandals ranging from Scomi, to ECM Libra, and the escalating prices of goods. The fact that all these are happening before our very eyes has made me aware of what the future may bring. I am only 24 years old, this is the first time I’m writing my views and I hope that you will bear with me. I have never been involved in politics, nor am I a member of any political parties or organizations, but I am giving it a shot. I know that there might be negative comments on what I have to say but what the heck. Here it goes…

Now, it has been 4 terrible years of injustice shadowed upon us after giving a very strong mandate to the present Barisan Nasional Government. Let us use our votes wisely this time around to show the Barisan Nasional Government that we no longer will tolerate being pushed around, trampled on, and spat on! Let us show them that we are The Rakyat! The Boss! 4 years of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badahwi’s rule has been nothing but rise in crime, soaring prices in goods, racial tensions, increase in corrupt practices, petrol and diesel hitting sky high and the list goes on!

The most feared impact that WILL happen should Barisan Nasional win on the 8th of March will be the immediate announcement of a rise in Petrol & Diesel prices. Former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) has stressed that this will happen as he is a person experienced in controlling and engineering the country’s economy. At first, I thought that this was merely a political gimmick to garner votes for his Parti KeADILan Rakyat. But I took it for serious when all the Barisan Nasional leaders could come up with was that it was a global issue and the price of oil is determined by greater powers. If this is their answer to counter DSAI’s allegations, then it is true that oil prices will go up after Malaysia votes on the 8th of March if Barisan Nasional is returned to power. DSAI suggest that the Government uses part of the Revenue from Petronas to subsidize the cost of Petrol & Diesel to reduce the mammoth of a burden on the people. Current Deputy Prime Minister has stated that by doing so, the country would go BANKRUPT! I for one would beg to differ. Singapore is a non- oil producing nation, has got no sand, no water, no palm oil, no timber, and so on. How is it possible that they can manage to keep their oil prices low? Our PM says don’t compare a Good Grape (Singapore) with a Good Apple (Malaysia). I say that there is nothing good about the apple he is talking about.

Enough about that, now let’s talk about racial tensions and the call for a free and fair elections. I was very privileged to be able to witness the mass rally by Bersih and Hindraf that took place in the Federal State late December 2007 as that time I was working in KL but have since returned to my hometown of Sabah to assist and give all that I can to DENY Barisan Nasional the 2/3 majority they desire and “deserve”. Now back to the rallies, it was supposed to be a friendly demonstration for both, but as an eye witness, I say that it was down right UNFAIR how both episodes ended. You all know with and I don’t need to stress on it. I hate to say this but, PLEASE! ABOLISH I.S.A!

The War has begun, the Battle for Parliament has begun, the Battle for Penang has begun, the Battle for Sabah has begun!! Based on the feedback by the grassroots in Sabah, analyst would say that the state is ready for a change. PKR Sabah has adopted the slogan, “Tukar baju” & “Semangat 85” whereby the then opposition Parti Bersatu Sabah toppled the mighty Berjaya Government. However, I urge the local leaders in the opposition to not take this for granted, instead take the opportunity to win with a tremendous majority in votes. It is very sad that the DAP & PKR had failed in their attempts to compromise on seat allocation to avoid three cornered fights which will be a huge benefit to the Barisan Nasional.

My message to the people of Sabah and Malaysia as a whole is, go all out to vote against the ruling coalition without fear. The May 13th racial riots are being unearthed again to install fear to the voters. I say that we should not fear these threats as we are united in PKR, DAP, and PAS whether you are Malay, Chinese, Indian, Bidayuh, Iban, Bajau, Murut, and etc. As for the voters in Sabah, do not fear the sanctions that were befallen on Tambunan during the time Sabah was considered the rebel state under the PBS Government. I plan to wake up on the 9th of March reading the headlines in the papers stating that Barisan Nasional have fallen in Terengganu, Penang, Sabah, Selangor, and if possible, Barisan Nasional Loses it’s 2/3 majority in Parliament.

At the moment, I don’t take for serious the reports in the mainstream media as I know that they are “less than half truths”. I choose the internet, namely Malaysia Today as an alternative as the editor himself is a very courageous man in exposing, unearthing, and firing corruption allegations and the people involved without fear. The editor is without a reasonable doubt, very smart and intelligent. If not, Malaysia Today would have closed shop a long time ago, lawsuits will be overflowing in his “In – tray”, he wouldn’t be walking the face of this earth as you read this, and most importantly THE PEOPLES DECLARATION TO ALL OPPOSITION PARTIES would never have surfaced,

For those voting in Penampang, I daringly urge everyone to rally behind the PKR candidates Datuk Chau Chin Tang for N.19 Kapayan, Moris Miji for N.20 Moyog, and Dr Edwin Bosi for P.174 Penampang! People of Malaysia, do make the right choice this 8th of March. Our future depends on it. Barisan Rakyat for Government! Vote Opposition!!

G.D.M (1st Time Voter)
P. 174 Penampang
N.19 Kapayan

Corrections - Danny Andipai was the candidate for PKR and the other whoever she/he mentioned should be the Independent candidate.

Anyway, the evolution of Malaysia politic has begun.Malaysians are not afraid anymore and the voters, especially the youngsters realized that they are really needed to make that changes.Hopefully they make better leaders in the future thus better political judgements and decisions for the real benefits for Bangsa Malaysia.SAY NO TO CORRUPTION.
