Yong Lee Hua @ Piang Lin, 78, today filed a suit against the Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) and the Government of Malaysia claiming for damages and relief during the 18-months period her citizenship was revoked.

She filed the suit through her lawyer Martin Idang at the Kota Kinabalu High Court registry accompanied by her son and veteran Sabah politician Dr Chong Eng Leong.

Yong, a Sino-Kadazan from Penampang, told reporters after filing here suit that she was grateful that here citizenship had been restored but decided to take legal action for the benefits of others facing similar problem.

She said it was not about monetary gain but just wanted those concerned know the stress and mental anguish that she had to go through when her citizen of Sabah status was revoked by the NRD. She said she wanted her case to serve as a lesson to the NRD.

Yong had applied for replacement of her MyKad (identity card for citizen) that was lost in Feb 13, 2007. In replacing her document, the NRD issued her with a Red Mykad denoting that she was only a Permanent Resident in Sabah.

In her suit, Yong claimed that she suffered losses as her bank account was frozen and was not able to withdraw money for her and her husband medical expense. She claimd that when her husband passed away four months ago, she was unable to get money from her account to pay for the funeral expenses.

Time has changed, people are more aware of their rights now, this is the time to teach them all a leason they will not forget for a long time.
Why let them inconvenience us and get away with it, if they were inconvenienced by us they would slap us with fines and compounds right?
The government dept.'s and politicians alike should not be left to do what they like unchecked.
