Sabah supports Shahrizat

KOTA KINABALU: The 14 nominations received by Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil from Sabah Wanita Umno to contest the movement's top post shows that the majority of Wanita grassroots in Sabah want a leadership change in the movement.

Sabah Wanita Umno head Senator Datuk Armani Mahiruddin said that after 25 divisions had held their delegates' meetings, the Wanita wings in 14 of the divisions nominated Shahrizat to contest for the Wanita Umno chief post.

"I believe this is what the grassroot members want and the 14 divisions want a major change in the Wanita Umno Malaysia leadership next year," she said in a statement issued here Wednesday.

She said Sabah Wanita Umno also supported the move by the movement's executive committee member Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim to contest the vice-chief post.

Armani also agreed with Kamilia's stand to reject the Wanita Umno transition plan which had been accepted by the movement's leadership on Aug 4.

On another matter, she confirmed that there were no cases of violation of party ethics as claimed to be happening in some the Sabah Umno divisions.
