Malaysia Day = New Goverment

Tuesday Sept 16 will be a Public Holiday in Sabah to celebrate Malaysia Day and the Yang Dipertua Negeri's birthday. Sept 16, 1963 was the day when Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore together with the Federation of Malaya form a new nation called MALAYSIA.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also chosen Sept 16 for the Pakatan Rakyat coalition of PKR, PAS and DAP to form the Federal Government.

Speaking to reporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Anwar reiterated that the dateline (Sept 16) he had set for the opposition to form a new government, replacing the BN Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, had not change despite of a former aide accusing him on sodomy.

He also said that PKR, headed by his wife Datin Seri Azizah, was in discussion with PAS and DAP on the imminent by-election which he would contest to step into parliament.

Asked if more umno members would cross over to the opposition, he said there would be more such moves `but we will surprise you from time to time."

Pasok No More

One of Sabah's oldest political party United Pasok Nunukragang National Organisation (PASOK) (established by Datuk G S Sundang 30 years ago) has been de-registered by the Registrar of Societies (R)C) on May 27, 2008.

The action by the ROC had been anticipated following the leadership tussle between Cleftus Mojingol and John Richard Jayasuria, who respectively claimed to be the party's President.

Due to their differences, the ROC did not allowed them to contest using their logo in the March 8, 2008 general elections, resulting their 11 candidates for State seats and three for parliament contesting as Independents.

In Pasok's political history only Ignatius Stephen Malanjum made it to the State Legislative Assembly in the 1985 State elections, only to be stripped of the YB's title after an Election Court declared his election as Moyog Assemblyman null and void.

Pasok going for broke

Sabah-based opposition party, PASOK, which had last year announced that the party will contest in all constituencies, today decided against doing so due to lack of fund to finance their election campaign.

Its President, John Richard Jayasuria, said as for now the party will only confirmed contesting in five seats. And that he is likely to contest in Tanjung Aru and not as he had announced to contest against Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman in Sibuga.

The colour of Sabah politics is beginning to bloom. Just thinking aloud. Will Vitos Koding contest in Ranau? His father the late Datuk Mark Koding, Sabah former Deputy Chief Minister, was once Kinabalu MP and Ranau Assemblyman.

Parti Pasok set for deregistration?

Parti Pasok, one of the longest established oppposition political party in Sabah, is heeding for doom, destine to a tragic fate. It risks its registration revoked by the Registrar of Society. This is due to the fact that the party now has two presidents with their own set of supreme council members. They also have two headquarters. Richard Jayasuria heads the latest fiction while Cleftus Mojinggol with the older fiction. Both presidents had been issuing press statements - that they will contest and confident of winning enough seats to topple the present State Government. But with the party's fate in the hand of the ROS, anything can happened between now and when the general elections is held.

My Say:

Parti Pasok should learn a lesson from the Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) which had also had two presidents, two sets of supreme council members and two headquarters. PBDS was de-registered by the ROS and its members formed a new party, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) which is also facing leadership power struggles now. PRS now have two presidents, James Jemut Masing and Larry S'ng, two sets of supreme council members and two headquarters.
